SHARE's Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless is a time-honored tradition in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York where the very first Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless was served by area high school students 30 years ago. We are acting on behalf of those who can't advocate for themselves, those who have doors closed in their faces and those who have lost all but the last remnants of hope. The homeless and the hungry poor live right here. And right over there. And are part of our near and our greater community. For three decades, we have simply wanted to help ease the many burdens they carry. Please help us.

SHARE has always been an organization of volunteers. There are no salaries. We are a cog in the larger wheel of social kindness and humanity. And, it amazes us all what our "small group of citizens" has done to truly help those who have so very little, right here in our community as well as neighborhoods beyond.

Among the many service choices we offer, Project SHARE has been actively involved with outreach volunteer work with the homeless in both Westchester County and New York City, partnering with the Midnight Run, Inc. In 1989, Hastings High School hosted our first annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless. This coming November 26th, we will celebrate our 30th Anniversary Dinner. We will continue to “pay it forward” and to unconditionally give without any expectation of receiving back and in doing so, we will break bread yet again with 800 men, women and children from all five boroughs in New York City and Westchester County. Approximately 300 students from area high schools and colleges are involved every year in our holiday celebration. Not only do we raise the funds we need for the event, but we work long hard hours seeking vendors to donate what we require to provide this home-cooked meal to our many guests. We do the preparation and cooking ourselves, we provide buses to transport our guests, entertainment and babysitting for the children who come to share our feast. And, for the 400 or so people who can't make the dinner, we deliver their meals the following day. Our annual flagship event will be here in the blink of an eye and we must raise the funds to support it.

Here are some amazing stats to ponder. Over the past 32 years, our kids in SHARE have prepared and served not only 20,380 pounds of turkey, but also the following during our monthly outreach programs in NYC:

96,300 bagged lunches
25,500 cups of coffee
4,332 hot dogs on the hot dog runs
20,132 cups of soup or chili

Please be generous and, as always, with love and hope abounding, we thank you and wish you a Thanksgiving filled with peace, happiness and good health.
